History of the UNR

The history of our organization stretches back to the dawn of the Star League. As the ink still dried on the Accords that created it, the new High Council began a project to support the reunification of the human species. Their goal was to create an organization that spanned the entire Human Sphere bringing information to the masses concerning every nation and world in existence. This was no small feat as there had never before been a truly InnerSphere wide news service. The founders of the League were generous with their contributions to the new agency granting unheard of access to their individual realms. Star League Press Interstellar (SLPI), or the Interstellar Press as it was also known, recruited the finest journalist from every planet around the InnerSphere forming the greatest news bureau ever known.
With the League in its infancy the SLPI went through a short bout of idealism before it was dealt a solid dose of reality in the Reunification War. Stories of mankind’s utmost achievement through cooperation were gradually replaced by stories of doubt in an enormous boondoggle. The conflict tested the relationship between the new government and its young press service. More than once journalist were completely ruined or jailed for crossing the line while reporting on the unpopular war. However, the SLPI remained ever vigilant to its standard and never stopped reporting the news that people had to know.
Following the surrender of all Periphery forces the SLPI returned to mainly positive coverage of the League as a whole. It was during Mankind’s Golden Age that the Interstellar Press became the universal source of unbiased (depending on your point of view) news and information for all of humanity. Functioning as a free press they roamed the expanses of the Star League in search of a story in good times and bad. There were “incidents” of course with the closed cultures of the Draconis Combine and the Capellan Confederation. The Press also remained sympathetic to freedom fighters in the Periphery who began to gather steam again at the end of the Star League. While they may have supported the independence of these far flung territories the SLPI failed to realize what would happen next.
During the Amaris Coup some reporters escaped the Hegemony and some did not but they all still did their best to report the news to their brethren around the InnerSphere. While a few choose to leave with Kerensky or went to work for the national press agencies of the Great Houses a core group has remained together. Incorporating shortly after the breakup of the Star League, UNR (which is based within the New Republic) continues to report the news from all around the known worlds. They are still able to draw on sources as their slogan says “Spanning the Human Sphere”. This is thanks to their unique access to every national and virtually all regional news networks which allows UNR to compile a complete picture for the denizens of the InnerSphere. A newly established business partnership with the rebuilding Department of Communications gives UNR the largest reach of any news organization currently operating in 2785.
