The Telosian Massacre

December 30, 2785

War is hardly a civilized affair and in every conflict there are invariably some atrocities that occur. Some of these horrific events are entirely overblown by propaganda and the ill-will that exists between the combatants at that time. On occasion there are those incidents that go far beyond the scope of simple war crimes and continue to live on in the infamy of history. Without hyperbole we can now say what happened on Telos IV in late September 2785 will no doubt go down as one of the darkest events in all human experience. Even the Tintavel Massacre which occurred during the Age of War and inspired the ineffective Ares Conventions pales in comparison. It is because of the great extent and severity of damage perpetrated by Draconis troops months ago is only now coming to light.

End of an Era

Today the last remaining holdover from the Star League, the Department of Communications, announced that it would officially change its name to ComStar marking the end of an era. Former Minister Jerome Blake acknowledged that his organization bore little resemblance to its old designation. He also credited his protégé, Conrad Toyama, for properly recognizing this fact and coming up with its new name. ComStar is a combination of Communications Enterprises Incorporated and Starlight Broadcasting Limited who in conjunction with the Department of Communications provided interstellar communication services to the entire Human Sphere.

Argument Against Piracy

Ever since the Terran Republic has decided to sanction the actions of so called privateer groups I have been asked how I could be against the new policy.  Proponents of using pirates try to make it seem like there are no disadvantages to allowing privateers to operate out of our bases and have so far done a good job of obscuring a small but vocal group that has been warning against this new course.  Today I ask everyone how they could possibly be in favor of allowing pirates to operate from our space.

After the shock attacks by our neighbors, the Republic was plunged into shock. Now, that shock has turned into outrage and anger. On every world recruiting stations for the TRAS are struggling to cope with the demand from our citizens to serve. Factory workers are working extra shifts unpaid to produce vital war materiel. We must, and we will resist this naked aggression.

Profitability or Appeasement?

Today’s announcement by executives from Renault Prime Industries is truly a sign of the times. With economic interests on both sides of a hostile border the company had been strongly criticized for straddling the fence. This policy didn’t earn RPI any friends to be sure and with its only functioning facility on the disputed world of Dieudonne something had to be done.

WAR

The new Kurita invasion of five Terran worlds, in addition to their continued efforts to subjugate star systems in dispute, has led the New Republic to declare war on the Draconis Combine. This monumental decision was not taken lightly by our esteemed Regent Amanda Cameron who ultimately chose to ask for the support of the Terran Congress. While she wasn’t required to do so by the Constitution, which gives her the right to declare a state of emergency if the nation is invaded by a foreign power such as this, the Regent no doubt realized the enormity of the situation and the need to call for national unity in response. The vote by the Congress was unanimous and so the dye was been cast.

In what could prove to be the opening moves of the next great war unfolded this month out on the fringes of the InnerSphere. House Kurita forces successfully raided both Kesai V in the Federated Suns and Bone Norman in the Lyran Commonwealth at roughly the same time. These simultaneous attacks seem to indicate the Draconis Combine is ready to strike but where and when exactly? Do they really intend to follow up these victorious probes with full scale assaults into Davion and/or Steiner territory? Could our friends in the Rim Protectorate be in danger or is this just a ploy by the Dragon to distract us from his true goal?

Changing of the Guard

Hesperus (Terran Free Press)

The transition to a new era of interstellar relations was recently completed on the world of Hesperus for all to see. Amidst the pomp and circumstance of the actual ceremony was a genuine feeling of change. I could not help but wonder what extent had the InnerSphere already changed since this planet was first settled and what will the future hold for the realms of the former Star League? Watching Terran and Lyran soldiers dutifully exchanging one national banner for another as dignitaries shook hands to conclude the affair was clearly a watershed moment to many in the region. The formalities carried out here speak volumes about the new order of things and what has already come to pass on this one planet.

Gold Shield

August 1, 2785

Terra (Terran Free Press)

Regent Amanda Cameron and Senior General Lauren Hayes announced a comprehensive defensive plan today designed to safeguard the New Republic from its enemies. Entitled Operation Gold Shield it was short on specifics as one would fully expect. Details were withheld from the public in order to protect classified national military secrets. Not one Terran objected to this lack of information since the threats posed by the Great Houses are obvious for all to see. The announcement comes in the face of continued aggression from the Draconis Combine and the Free Worlds League. With their continued occupation of nine Terran border worlds and the low level conflict on Altair that is constantly growing the danger of invasion by one or both of these belligerent powers is very real.
